Marine F4U landing gear colour.

I know that the Navy painted the landing gear struts the same colour as the underside of the aircraft during WW2.  Did the Marines do the same?

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

Yes they did. Marine Corps aircraft were built to the same specs. Remember, the Marines are part of the Navy (as much as some hate to admit it), and most of their equipment, especially aircraft, falls under Navy guidelines.

lol, but, Stik is right

All of the Marine aircraft were painted according to the Navy Mil-Specs (or varied from them, lol, just like the Navy Aircraft did)

The only exception I can think of were the earliest Harriers, and the Navy just added those British colors to the next edition of the Mil-Spec anyway. (making them conform to Navy regs from then on, lol)

Wink I was wondering how they incorporated the early Harrier schemes into the regs... especially as those were British BSC colors used Surprise IIRC those were built by Hawker-Siddley Aviation for the Marines.

Where things can get quite interesting color wise is early in US involvemnt in WWII, when services acquired aircraft types built for the other, SBDs into A-24s or B-25s into PBJs, or even Lend Lease aircraft intended for the RAF such as the P-400 or F2A, and put them into service in their original colors as built with current user markings.
