Academy PBY-5A kit help needed
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, March 4, 2004 8:00 PM
I am guessing someone here has built this kit.

On the Black PBY kit, how do you put the landing gear in the "up" position? Academy's directions are poor. Are they just glued in the landing gear bay?

I tried building it with the gear down but Banged Head [banghead] Censored [censored] Banged Head [banghead] Censored [censored]

BUMP

I am still in a quandry about the PBY-5a Black Cat. I had set the model aside and now I am back at it. I can't see a way to mount the side wheels in the up position.

The gear bay is too deep to put the wheels in, they just fall in.

Hasn't anyone built the Black Cat?

you're probably going to have to build a spacer to mount the retracted wheel. I'd make one out of a piece of sprue cut to length, glued to the back of the wheel and then to the inboard wall of the gear well.

Can't help you here since i've only built the PBY-5 which is the same as the PBY-5A except for the wheels! Big Smile [:D]

Thanks, that's almost exactly what I am going to do.

The only difference is that after I whittle down the sprue to size I am going to glue it to a little square piece of styrene and I hope it will make it easier to attach.

Thanks

More help needed with this Dang PBY.

The turret framework is very difficult to see I am wondering how others have masked off the turret. There are no ridges or seems that I can cut by through masking tape, and the lines are so faint, I can't be sure I will get them completely with liquid mask.

Ideas? (preferably from PBY builders 1/72 scale (1/48 has got to be a lot easier to deal with). Thanks
