Testors (Hawk) 1/48 McDonnell F2H-2 Banshee
Hello fellow modelers:
I recently bought Testors' reissue of the venerable old Hawk 1/48 McDonnell F2H-2 Banshee kit. I've read on various websites that this model is actually an F2H-1; I'm not sure if that will make much difference to this inquiry or not. To do this model justice, I want to remove the decal locator lines, add a good cockpit, use proper landing gear & wheels, detail the wheel wells & make any other corrections or improvements that are needed. I've only gotten as far as acquiring a nice resin ejection seat that's correct for this aircraft.
I have to say that for a half-century old kit, it's really not all that bad as a starting point. It has engraved panel lines & the mold maker didn't go crazy with rivets, either. I may be wrong, of course, but it looks like a decent starting point for a good model. Plus, as far as I know it's the only styrene kit in existence of this aircraft.
Can anyone out there point me to sources for a good cockpit, landing gear & anything else I would need to build a reasonably accurate model? Some things would be fairly easy to scratch build or kitbash, but I'd like a detailed cockpit, landing gear & wheel wells at a minimum. Is there another production plastic kit available that would have some of my wants that I could scavenge?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all, & don't forget the Great New England Air Show at Westover AFB coming in May!
