Revell 1/32 Arado AR196A-3 Seaplane
Posted by UKguyInUSA on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 10:26 AM
Hello Everyone, I've just joined FSM and have enjoyed looking at some of the impressive builds over the last 15 months since I started building in January 2014 after retiring in June 2013. I've learned a lot of modeling skills from watching other modelers videos on YouTube and their build threads in modeling forums, and, I feel I've come quite a way since my first build wherein I had no knowledge of things such as priming, pre-shading, pin-washes, washes, filters, chipping, post-shading etc. So, with that said, I'd like to share with you my latest, build #17 since I started modeling, which is the fabulous kit manufactured by Revell of Germany that is very well engineered, highly detailed and which I built out of the box. My only additions were scratch built tie-ropes at the sides of the fuselage, the float and strut rigging and the tie cable that goes from the port-side wing to the portside fuselage when the wing is displayed folded back. I also added the antenna cables. Well, I hope you enjoyed these photos as much as I enjoyed putting this kit together! I highly recommend this kit, it is great value for the money for all of the details that are included on the 14 sprues- 13 grey and one clear, plus cartograf decals! I had zero issues with this kit, it went together like a dream and no silvering occurring with the decals, which sat nicely in place when using Walthers Decal setting solution to fix them. If you'd like to watch my YouTube video for the "Final Reveal" of this build series that I did on YouTube, here is the link: https://youtu.be/ZRKU-k-M-BE Thanks for taking a look and for any comments left, in advance! Cheers, Martin :)

Oh My Word !  That's one fabulous build.   The weathering and chipping is just stunning.

Weathering is outstanding looks to be a fun but challenging build. I have 2 on the shelf with a hand full of aftermarket to go with them.

Martin - Welcome to FSM, you will be a great addition to the forums. Your build and finishing is just incredible, a stellar representation of an aircraft in military service, completely believable in all respects. I've been a modeler for many decades, I would love to be able to do that well. Thanks so much for posting, I hope we'll see much more from you.

Thanks, Offduty, greatly appreciated! It was a very fun and enjoyable build, I couldn't put it down, and, the German engineering in it is top notch, that similar to a recent Tamiya kit, it falls together! You should build one of yours now, you won't be disappointed! Cheers, Martin :)

You have been building models for around a year and a half and this fantastic piece is #17.  Thanks for sharing.   Now I will retire to a corner,  eat some humble pie, and maybe suck my thumb for a little while:).              knox

Very, VERY nice job on a beautiful kit. Nicely restrained chipping, and the overall look is harmonious. Well done!

Well, this is one of the most gorgeous aircraft models I've ever seen. I had no interest in the subject before, but after seeing this I want one (though there's no way I can do it justice like you have).

Fantastic, fantastic job!
