Tamiya 1/48 Mitsubishi Betty canopy wheel

I am completing this model now but have a question about the wheel in the kit and also in the Eduard PE kit. The instructions show the wheel mounting horizontally at the bottom of the canopy, sort of half in the cockpit next to the left seat and half outside the airplane. It looks like an elevator trim wheel. This makes no sense since the canopy would not be able to close. If you've built this kit, can you tell me what they had in mind?

Thanks for the help.

Do you have a picture of what you're describing?  Even after a search of Betty cockpits, I could find very little about what you've mentioned.  ??  Doesn't seem to be a lot out there.

Hmm what do you mean by "close"?

Isn't it fixed?

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Bob, if you're talking about part D20, it is the rudder trim wheel  and it mounts on the big center frame of the canopy on the inside. Imagine sitting in the right seat and reaching straight up with your left hand, and you will get the right location.
