1/48 Kittyhawk F9F-8 Cougar

I used this as my testbed for the SB intake trunking. I didn't want to do a blue scheme, so I cobbled together the markings from the Furball F9F-8T sheet for VA-56. I thought the rocket pods and dumb bombs would look a bit different. Overall, it's a really nice kit. I'm planning on building a few more.

Great job, Darren! I've got the Kitty Hawk two-seater version of that kit. Hope mine comes out half as good as yours did. Love those markings!

Hello Darren!

A very nice build - although it's too clean for my personal taste, but that's just me. Which year cruise was that? Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

Thanks for the kind words. Pawel, I usually make them a bit more "used", but all the pictures I saw in the Ginter book showed very clean aircraft. I think it was a combination of being freshly painted (the switch from Glossy Sea Blue to Gull Gray/White had just occurred) and the fact that the Gull Gray/White scheme held up very well to the elements.

Wow, that's beautiful work!

I'd thought about picking up this kit but wasn't sure about the quality but if I could get one to look half as good as yours I'd be thrilled.

Darren - That's just some beautiful work, the finish detailing is among the best I've seen. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for all the kind comments. The kit is a nice build with not a lot of problem areas. I'm just glad there's a 1/48 Cougar on the market now.
