Italeri/Accurate Miniatures TBM-3 Avenger instructions? Turret issue
Posted by dirkpitt77 on Friday, May 8, 2015 8:16 PM

Hey folks,

Italeri's instructions are terrible, and I'm on the home stretch, but need help with the turret. It seems one must glue one half of the turret glass to the already assembled turret, then glue the other half of the glass on. Is this correct? Italeri's instructions would have you glue all turret glass together, then fit over the turret. This method doesn't seem to work due to stuff being in the way of a clean slide down onto the turret. Can anyone give me a clue as to what AM intended here? Google search is only turning up old threads.

Thanks!

Chris

Chris

Already built the Academy model also a CA rebox as the Italeri model.

I glued the two transparent pieces.

After painted.

And finally in place.

I hope this helps.

Chris, I have a copy of the original AM instructions as a PDF. I'm not sure I could have assembled the turret assy on my Academy rebox without them. There is a page on just the turret.

I don't know how to post one page from a pdf here, but if you want to PM me your email address, I'll email the entire AM instructions PDF to you if you want.

Thanks for the offer, Greg. I'm fixed now. I got it figured out late last night, finally.

I think I must've mis-assembled the lower turret assembly somehow. The glass portion was just not sitting down on the notches at the sides like it was supposed to. The molded pivots on each side for the gun, the curved shield in front of the gunner, and the gunner's armored headrest were preventing the glass from resting evenly on the notches. I ended up grinding off the headrest, and grinding down the sides and front until the glass could be dropped into place correctly.  Here's a pic. Ground areas in red, notch and tab align points in yellow.

Probably just ham-handed assembly by yours truly, but I guess that's the way it goes sometimes.

Glad you got it sorted, Chris.

That turret assy had me laying awake nights trying to figure it out a couple years back.
