Hobby Boss A-6a Intruder payload
Posted by smith248 on Saturday, May 16, 2015 8:56 PM

Hello all,

I am starting construction of Hobby Boss' A-6a in 1/48th scale.  I would like to pose the aircraft with a nearly full weapon load.  The kit comes with a bunch of munitions some of which I know were not carried by the "a" model Intruder, like the big Harpoon missile.  Also the kit only comes with 2 MER racks.  My question is what suggestions do you have on where to look for aftermarket munitions without breaking the bank account.  In a perfect world i would load up all 5 pylons with a MER rack and 6 snake eyes on each but that would cost me more than the whole kit for the external stores.

If I use only the weapons provided in the kit I would load out as many as 12 mk81 bombs or 6 mk82 bombs on the two MERs and then load the other three pylons with fuel tanks.  Not ideal but it might be what I have to do if i can't find aftermarket parts that are affordable in quantity.

Check out the Hasegawa Weapons Set-A. It comes with 2 MER"S and a wide variety of bombs.  You can use 4 MER's and a centerline fuel tank which too would be a normal configuration. Something I will be doing with my Monogram A-6.

I second the Hasegawa weapons set. It comes with at least 6 more snakes plus the MER and TER racks. They can be found on eBay and Amazon for 15 bucks or less

thanks guys.  As luck would have it I was given Eduard's F-15e striking eagles and F-4b good morning da nang kits for my birthday.  Awesome looking kits, and both come with a bunch or ordinance.  It looks like the F-4 has a couple MERs in it and a bunch of slicks... I might be able to load up all the kits by scavenging parts from the others.  The F-4 I'm going to do in the standard CAP 4x AIM-7 and 4x AIM-9 so all the air to ground ordinance can be shifted to the Intruder and mud hen.

The Hasegawa ordinance kits are great. For the F-4B, the TER were connected below the sidewinders. Before the fire on the Forrestal, LAU-10 were carried as well as Mk82 bombs. I think the old Mk81 250 pound bomb was also carried in the early 1960s. The USN used AIM-9B/D/G/ and H in Vietnam.

Chasing the ultimate build.
