During this stage in the build, I became so engulfed with the 50 caliber belts in the wings, I didn't take notice that it was way past my bedtime.  4:30am!  Talk about rabid dedication, LOL!  My next project is to sand down the seams and work on any and or all discrepancy in the fuesalage and wings.  I can then prime the P-51 to see if there are anything else that needs to be worked on prior to to the final coat of silver.

I have been following all of your posts and you seem to be improving your modeling skills on a daily basis.

Your coming along beautifully and this P-51 is looking very nice.

Another step forward and I am excited for the final look on this build.  This evening I was able to join both fueselage together with no putty and just some minor ridges to sand down.

Yes, I did take a look and many of these engines depicted has silver nuts and bolts.  I'm also utilizing this months FSM depicted in the front page of the magazine of this particular build.

Take a look online at some Merlins. There's a lot of silver, including all of those nut and bolt heads.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Toshi,

I have built both, and they are really nice kits.  However, be very careful in reading the instructions and diagrams for the engine cowl parts on the Corsair.  I could not understand them and ended up compromising something incorrectly.  It looks ok to  a casual observer, but I know it's not right.  Do a lot of dry fit tests until you understand how the parts go together.  I hope this will help you.  Good Luck!

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Tamiya 1:32 Scale P-51 Mustang
Posted by Toshi on Monday, May 18, 2015 3:51 PM
To my fellow forum members, I just started to build the P-51 engine, this took me several days as this Tamiya kit has hundreds of little parts. It makes the PE included with P-51 look silly at best. This is a difficult build but I'm having a blast with this kit. Besides PE, there are some nuts and bolts in this Mustang build and actual rubber tires. Wow! The instructions are great in the form of the building sheet, out of this world decals, and detail of everything in this P-51. This was purchased for me by Mrs. Toshi as the Tamiya Mustang purpose was to keep me busy until Mrs. Toshi returns from her trip. To my surprise, Mrs. Toshi also purchased via eBay the Tamiya 1:32 Scale Cosair from the same series the Mustang belong to. What's cool is that the entire engine is covered and or can also be displayed. Tamiya's 1:32 Corsair has the option to build a see through cowling. The Corsair was my anniversary gift. As always, I will do a step by step build for forum members. Here is a partial assembly of the oil cooler and engine. Thank you for the read and reply, I'm always interested in what could have been done per a second set of eyes. I still am in the process of detailing the engine. This is what I'm trying to replicate.
