Kinetic or Italeri F-86F-30.  It's the same kit.  Stikpusher is correct.  The F-86F- 30 / Canadair Sabre 5 (same jet except for the engines) had the "6-3" non slatted wing equipped with a wing fence.  The F-86F-40 had the "6-3" slatted wing with a 12" wingtip extension.  I stand to be corrected but I think some of the early -40's had the wing fence but the leading edge was replaced with the slats.  I know Canadair's first batch of 6's off the line had the "6-3" non slatted wing (without the 12" extension) and then part way through production the slats were re-introduced and many 6's had the slats retrofitted in the field by squadron maintenance.

Nice work on your Sword, silver.

Historic notes: John Glenn's 1st tour in Korea was with the Marines ( in F9F5s ) and he was the groups leader. He assigned Ted Williams, the baseball player, as his wingman. For his 2nd TOD (Tour of Duty) he was TDY to the Air Force in an F-86 Fighter group. It was his USAF ground crew that painted the "Mig Mad Marine" on his F-86 because he complained that there were not enough Migs available for shooting down.

The Hasa kit I looked at in 32/nd for the JASDF had the slatted wing and what put me off was the raised detail.

I believe that the -40 had a longer slatted wing and not the "hard" 6-3 wing of the -30. There is also a 1/32 F-86F put out by Kinetic, that make a -30 kit. Or at least they did one a couple or so years back.

F-86F Saber in 1/32 scale

Hey all,

Got interested the other day in modeling a 1/32 F-86F after I found some decals for John Glenn's "MiG Mad Marine" F-86 and though it would be fun to try.  From the research that I have done so far is that Glenn's F-86F was an F-86F-30.  There is a 1/32 Hasegawa kit for an F-86F-40...so is there that much of a difference between the 30 and 40 that I couldn't use the Hasegawa kit  for the "MiG Mad Marine" build?

The Hasegawa kit I am talking about is the old JASDF (Japan Air Self Defense Force) kit.  Any one know of a good, current kit in 1/32 that could be used?

Thanks!
