J J 's B-26 W.I.P.

   Hi Gang,

After much head banging and hair pulling I think I finally figured out ( with much help from you guys ) how to post pics on here, so here goes my 1st attempt at posting a WIP.  They are terribly out of order because I'm having problems syncing the pics with the text.

This is a 1/48 scale monogram B-26.   As the model was not very detailed and I wanted to delve into to rehlm of AM PE, so i bought an Edward complete set  and here's my progress so far.

I used my own mix of Tamiya for the Zinc Chromate interior , and added a few drops of yellow sprayed between the structure for effect.   The bomb bay is Alclad Polished Alum, over a gloss black Krylon decanted Ibase.   I'm still working on te bomb bay PE parts, but much of the ass'y has to be installed after the wings are installed.  Coments and especially critisizms are greatly appreiciated.  Thanks for looking.            Next came the Testor's gloss followed by The Detailer wwash which was a combination of black and brown....too much black I think.  Then a thin coat of Testor's Dulcoat.

Port side fuselage; The pit.  For the seat cushions a packaging material was used as it had nice texture, so I folded it many times and glued the layers with thined Elmer's ,cut it to size and stuck it on the PE seats.

The instrument panel looks great! I don't think that I have ever had the photo film from an Eduard set come out as sharp as what you have here. Very sharp!

Thank you all so much for the glowing comments !   I'm at a loss for words except to say that it's so gratifying that you guys, who I look up to ,would be so gracious and kind.

To Toshi, Mike and Brandon;  I am a very slow builder especially during Bass fishing season.  I also am working on an old boat, fixin her up , so that cuts into my modeling time quite a bit also these days, so I will post my progress on this beautiful B-26 as I complete sumpthin.

Next is installing the wings so I can complete the bomb bay ,because the bomb racks extend from the underside of the wings to the bottom of the fuselage.  I'm getting anxious to paint but I fear i'm a long way from that yet.

No criticism here JJ.  The washes bring out the depth of the molded details. The pit detailing is a killer along with that IP, just looks outstanding.

Well guys , here's a small update on the B-26.  Small because up and downloading all this is a PITA for my low tech mind.  This little bit took over an hour

So anyway, it's amazing what a little PE can do to spruce up a model.

The first pic is of the wing/nacelle ass'y without much of the PE added. just some in the interior of the wheel well.

The second pic is of the other side with all the PE added, wow what a differance.

The rest of the pics are of some bits and bobs ...landing gear doors are weathered with the detailer on thin.

Did some alclad on the prop hubs and wheels.

the last pic is to show the scale of the tiny PE ladder racks for the bomb bay...that took some creative bending I must say and a large magnifying glass.

What I struggle most with is getting the darn pics on here.  everytime I do a mouse click, i hafta wait until a darned commercial scrolls in.  and then today there was the Internet Explorer going down, my putr failing to recognize the signal , Photo bucket taking forever to upload the pics and on and on.

Bang Head  I hate computers.

Very nice job!  Excellent work and detail, I'll be following along this build.  How did you paint the bombs with the yellow stripes?  Or are they decals?

For reference, use photos of the National Air and Space Museum's later model B-26B "Flak Bait".  It is getting reassembled now, but I believe they are not going to restore it like the USAF Museum's B-26G or the MAPS interior green slathered B-26 which is incorrect for that model.

I guess you're saying the Chromate green is not right Rich ?   What color were the earlier models since that is what I am leaning towards building ?

Jay Jay, what you are building is the long wing Block B-10+ (Baltimore built were B's, Omaha built were C's). They had green interiors compared to the original B-26's and A models which were NMF. A lot of museum "restorations" which uses the term very loosely are not accurate depictions of the real thing. The NASM Block B-25 "Flak Bait" is the only completely original Marauder in the world. Kermit Weeks' original first model B-26 is close with the interior have been painted a light gray instead of NMF. So I would use photos of "Flak Bait" as a guide in your build as it is certifiably original from when it was dismantled in 1945 to now.

Your very kind BrandonK , Silent Bob and Toshi and I thank you so much for your encouraging coments.

Ty Rich for your learned advice on the colors but I think it's too late for me to change it now. I just don't wanna re-do the whole interior for fear of messing it up.

To SilentBob;  Heed Rich's advice on here and don't paint everything Zinc Chromate green when you build yours

To Toshi;  On the bomb stripes ;   I simply cut thin strips of Tamiya tape, painted them yellow and stuck them on the bombs.

All right JJ, It's my turn to hit you with a load of kudos. All of the interior work you have done looks stellar. The painting, detailing and PE work all look sweet. You have done some really fine work so far that's for sure. I'm impressed with your seat cushions. They look the part. The work you've done on the props, wheels and bombs is sharp and clean. Tamiya tape for the bombs? Hmm, I need to remember that little trick as it looks great. Keep that good stuff coming. I'm likin' it.
