No the Japanese did not use Bf-109s in combat. They did have and use a different Messerschmitt model, but I'll leave that to you the research expert.

As for 109s in foreign markings, when you are losing and giving up airfields all over North Africa, that can happen...

The link below provides a rare photo of a Me-109 used by Japan, with the mark of the Rising Sun emblazoned on the fuselage. Does anyone know if Japan used German fighters in combat?
