Ok, jury is in. I got a package from Sprue Brothers today with 4 Eduard 109Es (at 12.49 USD a pop, how could I get just 1?) I got 3 of the mentioned E-7 Trop kits (84167) and for good measure, an E-4 (84166) to compare. And the results are in. Drum roll please...

After comparing the two kits, it is obvious that they are in fact the same exact sprues. Case closed. Although if you have the choice between the two, get the E-7 trop, as it comes with 2 decal options (with full stencils!) and some nifty "super fabric" seat belts.

As for the whole 4mm too long deal, I'll let you be the judge. From what I have read, the Airfix kit is pretty spot on 2 seperate scale drawings (not my actual research, just what I have read, so take with a grain of salt) so I decided to see how the Eduard measured up to the Airfix. As you can see, it certainly is longer.  L= Eduard R= Airfix

Hi ajd3530,

If you are not worried about the scale inaccuarcy; Go get one!
It is a beautifull kit, detail is crisp and engineering is excellent.

Have not been able to confirm your comment regarding 84167.
I would rule out that the tolling is new;
I do not think Eduard would sneak out a correction on the tolling as a Weekend Edition, the first release is a masterpiece and the correction (if there ever is one) should be announced with fireworks :)

Best Regards

I don't know. I haven't heard anything about them retooling this. And I think that had they it would be more known. I've never seen anything to suggest this kit was retooled anywhere until reading that. And also the Emil is pretty well praised. I haven't seen much about its accuracy either. In fact when the Gustav was released the consensus seemed to be "how did they screw this one up when their Emil is so good?"

At least that's what I saw from the "experts."

...mmm, don't think hes' right. Doesn't even say why he thought the sprues looked like they had been re-tooled??

A few months ago, Michael Benolkin at CyberModeler did a review on 84167 saying that the kit had been retooled. While I do usually trust his reviews, I like to see something from two different sources before I am sure about it. I was hoping someone on here had done this kit and could say for sure.

No. It's the G-6 that is out of scale and they are retooling. The Emils are alright.

You sure you're not thinking of the G-6 that they s screwed up? They definitely aren't retooling the Emils that I'm aware of.

I'd like to find out more about this too.  I'm always interested in hearing about the little changes to kit parts over time.  One page I use is: https://www.scalemates.com.  If somebody looked it up, then it'll probably end up on this page.

Hope that's of some use.  =]

While doing research on 1/48 Emils, I have read that the Eduard Emils are "1/47" scale and the such, being like 2mm too long (a whopping 4 scale inches.) This does not bother me one bit. But I have read that this year, they have retooled their Emils and they are now the correct length. Weekend Edition #84167 is the kit in question. Can anyone confirm? Thanks a bunch guys.
