I usually don't build Air Force jets, but this project has an interesting history. When I was at the IPMS USA Nationals last month, a lady came up to my booth and asked me about F-4 Phantoms. We got to talking, and it turns out her relative was shot down on July 4, 1968 and rescued by an Army chopper. She wanted a model built of it to give to him. We talked some more, and it turned out he actually lives in the same city I do. So I gladly accepted to build it. I used the Monogram kit out of box along with Furball decals for the 12 TFW. In doing research for the project, it got even better. I actually got to talk to the crew chief of that aircraft. It was shot down on a strafing run, so I got to use the gun pod! I tried to expand my weathering techniques a little bit more and was happy with the result. The model will be given to him next month, and I'm really looking forward to it.
