To my fellow forum members,
This particular build took me a little longer. I was having some difficulty with my memory and it took me awhile to get back to normal. Mrs. Toshi said it's just old age. LOL!
In finalizing this build, I AB a coat of grey for the bottom of the Mk VIII. Then with a free hand I AB the gray/green camouflage. Once that dried, I used the Testors CreateFX brown, gray, black, and natural stain overlying each other to give the weathering some depth. I then went back to a technique I haven't utilized since my first build, a P-61.
I added the salt technique just to see how the outcome would change the weathering. If I didn't like it, I could always re-shoot the camouflage. I didn't mind doing that as that was really fun. Overall, I think it turned out ok. Please see the photos below, thank you!

Another beauty Toshi! Those 1/32 Tamiya's look sooo nice! On to the next:)

Very nicely done Mr. Toshi ! The hand done airbrushed camo looks spot on, very curageous of you not to use masks but you pulled it off well.
I'm finally retired. Now time I got, money I don't.
Pretty darn cool Toshi, looking forward to your next build!

Thank you very much gentleman, I highly appreciate the praise and the read and reply! As I mentioned above, this build took me a little longer than anticipated but it worked out well in the end.
Next up? Monogram 1:32 F4-G Phantom II Wild Weasel.
Another vote for a GREAT build and finish. Ya' hit her outta the park, Buddy, (or in your case a touchdown.) (:>)
Really nice job Toshi, thanks for the WIP and photos. I'll be watching for the F-4.

Nice work Mr. Toshi! Wow, a 1/32 F4? You must have big hanger for all these large scale birds.

This build turned out fine. It's the finish that I was most disappointed. I messed up on the salt technique. So instead of tossing this build, I decided to see if I can fix it or not.
First off, I sanded everything off that was affected by salt. Krylon Primer from Walmart and Model Master paints from Hobby Lobby. I have a seller on eBay that has the entire decal set from this kit. With this knowledge, I'll try to fix things again.
Sometimes repaints can be very satisfying, my friend. I've done more than a few myself. Its nice to go back with a new bag of tricks and I'm going to relish this thread knowing how well you can re-do this. :)
+1 above.
I remember a TF-18A/FA-18B I built in the 90s. I experimented with a new flat clear paint I got a hold of, ended up "snowing" the bird white (its the excessive flat base drying up white). Let her sit a few months and then did a repaint.

Your reasoning is perfectly sound. :)
I'll be happily watching and following.
Well, I waited for the acrylic paint to cure overnight, Today was going to be a big day for me. Can I pull this off or can't I? After a doctors appointment I immediately went straight into the work room and methodically studied the camoflauge on the Spitfire. The whole kit was assembled and painted with Vallejo Acrylics.
Putting some blue painters tape on the model and shooting this design to the best of my abilities I forged ahead. This is only the second time in my modeling hobby that I utilized masking for a camoflauge motif. The rest of my camoflauge kits were free hand painted.
I still have some touch ups to do as well as clean off any paint not needed. Once that was done, I'll be spraying the Supermarine with a Model Master Gloss Clear Coat #4638 in preparation for the decals.
Speaking on decals, there was a seller selling the entire Tamiya 1:32 Supermarine Spitfire as individual pieces. Although I thought that this was odd, I now see why this seller on eBay did so. For modeler's like me in need of specific parts to complete my/their project. In my case the entire decal sheet. I'm sticking with "Gray Nurse" and the attention giving sharks mouth.
Please see below of the progress with the Mk. III.
P.S. I must give credit to the "How to Build the Tamiya 1:32 Spitfire.
Here is the Mk. III with a testing sequence to see if I was on the right track.
That looks great, Toshi!
That fresh coat looks awesome, Toshi!
And about that individual piece seller, I think thats a great idea. More people should do that. Would certainly solve missing parts problems.
Thanks M.Brindos! At first it looked kind of bad, but then I realized that there are several types of camoflauge techniques utilized by the Luftwaffe. So I just went with it by using the Tamiya "How to build a Spitfire" magazine. My decal sheet should be arriving in a couple of days.
Thank you for the support,

I have to agree with you. It would definately make things easier for builders to deal with.
That's looking really nice Toshi. I'm glad you were able to find a set of decals you wanted for the project. Like others I too have redone pait schemes later on when not totally satisfied with the results. I think that's what makes this hobby so fascinating: It's a life long learning process.

Here are a few photos of where I need to cease and desist until my decals arrive.

Then came your Jan. 3rd post and I am glad to see that at least you came to your senses and decided to redo the finish!!! Congratulations, maybe you should rename it The Phoenix!
