Airfix 1/72 Vampire WIP

I have always been a fan of the boom tail aircraft and this one will eventually find it's way into my stash I'm sure.   .

As promised, Vampire number 2 completed.

...now maybe some aftermarket decals and a camouflaged one next...

Going to finish this in the other markings that come with the kit. I shall post the finished article in a few weeks, displayed alongside this one.

Nice build there. I have been thinking about adding a Vamp to the stash. You just pushed me closer.

That's so cool... love the progress successtion pics. Really unique aircraft. So with respect to the pieces you have on the "toothpicks", how are you afixing them to the wooden pikes?  The purpose of that is for airbrush type spray painting?  I'm on my first kit and hand painting all the little pieces which are held in clamps. Needless to say my clamps are already covered in lots of different color paints from where I went outside the lines :-/.  

And I call that done. Added the dual boom antennnas missing from the kit. Also replaced the Pitot tube which broke during construction.

I want to build another one now...using the other marking option. £8 a pop..I think i might.

This morning's progress:

Masks off - decalling time.

..and we are buttoned up and primed.

Trying to "busy up" the interior and add a few details.

belts added from some foil from my bottle of gin, grab handles (?) and bang-seat handle added from wire.

Made a start - prep on the cockpit. Maybe try and add some extra details. Got the HUD nailed i think. That instrument panel decal will need some trimming...

I built the same kit some time ago and the decals were very nice.

This is the scheme I have gone for.

I've had some luck spraying the old decals with a coat or two of Model Master clear.  Testor's laquer didn't work for me.  The problem with doing that though is you have to cut each idividual  decal from the clear coat.
