Snap together kits
Posted by Souda99 on Monday, September 21, 2015 11:35 PM

Ok so I am looking for a place that might have a fair selection of snap together kits that are reasonably priced. I'm looking for some practice kits for airbrushing. I have checked my LHS and Michaels and Hobby Lobby and not luck. I don't wanna destroy a more expensive kit practicing if you know what I mean. Any help would be great.

Hi,

Try checking eBay as your chances of finding a good selection wil be best there.Good luck with your search and post some of your work here...Douglas

If this helps....try looking in model kit lots on Ebay.  I bought a lot of 9 in 1/72 scale to do just that because they cost about $3.50 each.  They where not Snap kits but where fun and easy to build . There where 3 or so in the lot that I was interested in and the rest I didn't care so much if I messed up on for practice. I still have 4 of them in the stash.

Not sure of the prices, but Meijer and Walmart around me are starting to carry the Monogram and Revell kits, mostly the older ones, but you might find something there.  Good luck.

Some years ao I bought a bunch on the Monogram 1/48 scale WW2 a/c kits for5$ a piece.

Now my 11 year old son wants to build kits and I have him building those to practice his skills with building and airbrushing. If you are interested I'll sell you some of the ones I have.

Let me know

Where are you located? I'm surprised your Hobby Lobby was a no-go. Ours has Snap-Tite coing out the ears. Cars, aircraft, Star Wars, etc. My kids have been building like crazy with those.

When you say you had no luck at your local hobby shop, Michael's and HobbyLobby, do you mean they had no snap-together kits at all, or they had some but they were more expensive than you're looking to buy?

I'l second those who have suggested eBay.  Also, if you can get to shows, check among the vendors.  The old Monogram snap-together aircraft kits aren't bad, if you're looking for something to practice on.

What do you want to practice, too?  Finishing techniques, or all-around modeling techniques, from pre-assembly to a final sealer coat?  Either way, you might as well just look for cheap glue-together kits, because you'll probably find more selections, than if you restrict your search to snap-together.
