Huma 1/72 Focke-Wulf Triebflugel

I think you nailed it. These kits are rare because no one makes them any more and also they are of special subjects.

The plastic for outer wheels is flimpsy but it seems to hold the aircraft with no issue. I just have to remember to be gentle with it whenever i put it down.

It's great to see another completed Huma Triebflugel!  It was the first "Napkinwaffe 1946" model I built, as well as being my first limited run kit.  I saw an illustration of it in a book when I was in grade school, and I think it was instrumental in seeding my interest in the genre.  But I had to wait until I was in college for Huma's kit to appear!  I am very surprised that Revell Germany or one of the Chinese companies like Meng haven't made a new plastic kit of it.  I'd get one in a heartbeat!  As you know, the Huma Triebflugel isn't the easiest kit to do well, as the panel lines are soft and wobbly, the canopy is toenail-thick, and the decals resemble frosted Scotch Tape.

I see you have quite a collection of Luft 1946 kits - keep us posted on your future builds!

Devil, yes, that whole centre piece would have rotated. The motors on the end were Ram jets, so it would have nedd a second engine to get of the ground and to land. How the pilt would have landed that thing is beyond me.

Like Bish said the centre piece can be rotated if you want to build it that way like the real plane but I glued mine up.

Real G. I love Luft 46 subjects and have built few kits since I started modelling 3 years ago. Below is a picture of some planes in my collection ( except the Dornier everything else is built from kits. The Dornier is made by IXO ).

Ye, they have been out of buisness a few years now. I kept putting off getting the DFS 230, damn wish i hadn't. Hannants still have some of those Ju 287 kits, i must grab one of those soon myself. You might still be able to find some over there.

I paid $72 I think for the Huma Ju-287 wheni it first came out. The owner of my LHS made a funny face and asked if I was really sure that I wanted it. I had a couple of Huma kits finished by then so I knew what I was getting into. At least the Ju-287 was one of their better kits.  It needs a lot of nose weight and the landing gear is terribly wobbly though. The RATO pods are rubbish, so I used some DML ones pinched from two Ar-234 kits.

i was hoping Huma would have done a Ju-252 or Ar232 "Millipede".  The Mach Poo Ar-232 kit is terrible!

If there is a 1946 GB next year, I might join in to finish one or two to thin the stash!

I did not remember seeing the kit in hobby shops, though the Triebflugel was in shops at the time.

I delayed buying the Huma kit because it was ( at the time ) yet another Luftwaffe aircraft model lacking any published documentation; no internet, no books, not even a Wings or Air Classics article.

My interest in the kit only revived after purchasing a book on the Ju-287 ( ISBN 978-1-903223-92-5 ) by IanAllen Publishing.

Glad to be of assistance. No, it ain't cheap is it. But better than the cost of the resin one. Just be sure to save me one.

 

Definitely better than a resin kit- and especially better than the old Airmodel vac form kit.

Hannants is sure to sell much more than just the Huma kit and I won't want the expense of more than two of those Ju-287s

I have read about those issues with the 287, and was going to do the same thing for the RATO's.

A decent 252 and 232 would be real nice additions to the collection.
