B52D Zinc Chromate colors & Bombs
Posted by greentracker98 on Sunday, October 4, 2015 4:39 PM

I fully realize that this most likely has been asked before. However, I don't know where to look for it, so, I will ask again. If anyone could tell me where it is, that would be great.

And on the other hand, what are the Zinc Chromate colors used for the Camo over black B-52Ds?

I also need 8 more bombs for on the wing pods. Mine was an open box kit that I got from a guy in my modeling club. If you would be able to spare the clear pieces, That would be great too.

Thank you,

Ken

Striker8241 (I may have spelled it wrong) has a build of that Era B-52 in these forums. Very good information in that thread.

I remember seeing a B52D or two during the war with two different zinc chroate colors on the gear doors.  Mostly the interior was green but a yellow door had popped up on one or two.

Here's a few shots that might help:

750 pound bombs arriving at the base on their way to processing before going into the bomb dump mp

B-52Ds getting ready for their launch

Thanks Missip, Now that I did the search for strikers posts, I feel a humungus DUH! coming on. I knew about the BUFF GB Sorry, I just wasn't thinking on that one.

So, any ideas where I can get the bombs and the glass I need?

If you are interested there is a real B-52 D  (Viet Nam camo) on display at the USAF Museum near Dayton OH and there is one on display in Yipsalanty MI (Viet Nam camo) at Willow Run Airport. Yipsilanty is west of Detroit and East of Ann Arbor. This was the airport and factory built by Ford in order to build B-24s during WWII. There are several other aircraft on static display, e.g. F-84, B57, and there is a flying B-17G and a Flying B-25 you can get a ride in for a fee.

Hasegawa's 1/72nd weapons kits should give you all the 750 pound bombs you will need, along with the MERs

The Hasegawa US Aircraft Weapons Set 1 has 6 M117 750 pound bombs, and 2 MER.

Chasing the ultimate build.
