Completed Monogram 1:48 F6F-5 Hellcat
Posted by Toshi on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 3:28 AM

To my fellow forum members,

I remember building this very kit in June of 1979, once I had finished the model, I diligently carried it to my friends house so we could admire the folding wings on this Hellcat build.

Fast forward to the present.  Like nostalgic clock work, when I saw this same kit just this past sunday at Michael's I knew I had to build it again.  I also picked up more washes and some minor supplies needed.  Below is the completed F6F-5.  I didn't do a WIP due to the fact that I felt that I will be able to finish this build within 48 hours.

Wow Toshi, took me about a year and a half to finish my Hellcat! (I did have to put the thing away for almost a year there though)

Nice work!

I'm becoming a fan of your work and craftsmanship. Very nice looking model. I'm sure it's going to make a fine addition to your display. The plane captain's got a lot of work cleaning up this bird before the next mission!

Nice one Toshi. You finished the whole airplane in the time it's taken me just to get my pilot figure painted in my 1/72 Wildcat.Of course I'm also a notoriously slow builder!

Nice Hellcat Toshi. It looks like that is the current bird everyone is building. Nicely done and so fast.

Yes, it's Hellcat/Wildcat season!  LOL!!  I see that you're working on the B-17.  Is this the one that's visible with all that PE?

Toshi -

Very nice warbird, good job. It took me longer to write this post than you took to build the model. (Maybe you're the Wildcat.)   (:>)

Thanks for the post and photos.

I'm actually working on my other B-17G, early G, not the visible one. I am doing this one as a build prep for that one so I can eliminate issues I run into here and not face it later. I do have PE for the cockpit, only because I had two sets. No other add-ons planned, but I'm thinking about a wheels up, in flight pose. I will post a WIP pretty soon. I am starting to get really busy and my building time with almost disappear till mid-December shortly.

Sounds like you have a great plan ahead of your build schedule.  I'll be looking out for your WIP!  As always, thank you for your support and the read and reply.

Toshi,

I meant to ask in my earlier reply: how well did the kit go together? Any fit issues? Again great job and I always look forward to your next project.

The kit went together very well.  No fit issues hence no need of putty.  all I did was very light sanding and that's all.  I would definitely recommend this kit!

P.S. I forgot to add, that I don't have any more planes to build at home!  I have a Trumpeter 1:32 Me262 that's being shipped to me via EBay.  I also have a Skyraider in hand.  It's a Tamiya 1:32.  I'm just pre-painting some misc. items from the Skyraider for the moment to keep me busy.  I can't put it together as I've also added  A bunch of PE to this kit.  Once the P.E. arrives I'll start the Me262 build.
