Finished off this one today. If i had it over again, I would not bother with the aires set, most of it is not seen and it required a LOT of work to get it all to fit, especially the cockpit. I know you need to modify to get parts to fit, but this one was a nightmare in comparison to the 1/48 Hobby Boss Demon I did which also had aires AM. It has a few flaws but overall I am pretty happy with how it turned out (Knowing the problems I had)Kit- Trumpeter 1/48 F-100C Super SabreExtras- Aires F-100C Detail set - Xtradecal F-100C Super SabrePaints used- AK Xtreme metal (Aluminium and burnt metal), Alclad II Magnesium Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics, Gunze Mr metalizer (Dark Iron), Tamiya weather master burnt blue.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that yes, I used the AK gloss black base under the metalizer. AK metalizers go well, and dry very quick.
They are Enamel, similar to Alclad to use but maybe not as smelly. They are touch dry real quick. I can recommend you give them a go.
OH MY, what gorgeous paint work !
I'm doing an F-86 right now in hopes of trying a similar painting effect for the first time.. Wish me luck.
I'm finally retired. Now time I got, money I don't.
That is one great looking build!

Wow, beautiful work, the NM looks perfect and the heat discolouration around the engine is fantastic!

Thank you everyone for the kind words
oooh, shiny!!
Nice job on the NMF. How did you do the burnt metal areas near the exhaust?

Now that I'm here, where am I??
What a great NMF scheme. The exhaust and back end work is superb. Outstanding.!!
Thanks for sharing it.

Hello Callsignowl, I masked up that area, sprayed Alclad Magnesium and AK Xtreme burnt metal in vertical strokes. After that I added the TAmiya weather master burnt blue
Nice job. I built this kit almost a year ago and I agree it builds up really easy with no problems. I also used an aires pit and although it takes alot of work to fit it in place, I found the kit cockpit way to simple and inaccurate. It's actually closer to a D than an F-100c. How come no open canopy?
Beautiful work. I like the burnt tail section.
No bucks, no Buck Rogers
Hello Nathan, I did the canopy closed, the instructions did not give an open option and I was not sure on what sort of opening system they have? I didn't think it right to just tilt back the canopy, surely there is more to it than that?
http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/t/164780.aspx?page=1 Here's a link to my build. It was tough to take pics of the canopy hinge but you get the idea. I had to scratch build brackets and an upper deck for the canopy. No idea why aires or trumpeter couldn't help a guy out with that...
Beautiful work, especially on the heat staining. Quick question, did the F100 ever fly with 4 Sidewinders? I don't think I have ever seen one that way operationally. I'm curious what your source is, if you don't mind sharing. Thanks.
John
I don't know if they carried 4 or not, I wanted to liven it up with more than just drop tanks, A look on google found some other builds with that set up and I liked the look of it.
She's a cracker! Those Alclad paints make such a difference for achieving realistic NMF's!
Cheers :)
