O2 skymaster
Posted by Ryppcurl on Monday, October 26, 2015 11:14 AM

I recently picked up the Testors O2 skymaster, while I love the aircraft the kit leaves alot to be desired.

Q; does anyone know if there is an update set avalible for this kit?  mostly the interior?

I have that kit in my stash-picked it up too many years ago....tried to find AM parts for the interior with no success. Will be interested to see what you do with yours-I'm always looking for suggestions. Please post your work so we can follow.

I remember reading how somebody used two bird dog interiors, side by side, for the O-2 kit. But no, as far as I know, there is no interior out there for this kit. It's all up to the builders creativity.

My first build I simply added a rear bulkhead and seatbelts.  I may use the Bird dog idea this time.

Is this the 1/48 job? Both the O-2 and Bronco in 1/48 are still on my wish list cos the current offerings are awful.

well to put a little perspective here, both kits are roughly as old as the actual aircraft types themselves. Both were originally Hawk molds from the 1960s when things were not so  detailed.

Well, in 1/72 you only have the ARII kit - with no meaningful interior neither! That wouldn't really be a problem, if we had an idea what the interior SHOULD look like - then a little scratchbuilding and there you go. But the reference on that baby is hard to come by - and there are also differences between the civilian and the military versions - and so the references are the real problem here. Once I overcome that, I'm ready to build my 1/72 O-2 FAC!

Your O-2 looks really good in that colorful paint scheme - good luck with your build and have a nice day

My CFI and I fly a Skymaster for reef survey duties in the summer. Unfortunatly I normally pull observer duty!   Lovey aircraft. I built Testors offering and Hellers 1/50th offering. Testors is a great kit IMO

How different is it from the Cessna 336 or 337.

Chasing the ultimate build.

I had the Airfix 1/72 O2 and Bronco when I was a kid (looong time ago) and wanted to do them both again in 1/48 especially since I saw them modelled as FACs with large warning signs such as 'THE FAC' and 'F*** OFF' on the tops of the wings but I've never found any pics of the aircraft in question? Are these amusing interpretations or did these schemes actually exist?

I've seen a photo of "The FAC". It was for real. I had not heard of or seen any photos of the the other O-2.
