Canopy painting question.

Did the Luftwaffe paint the interior frames black, or were they the same color as the rest of the cockpit?

I am not 100% sure but I have always ben lead to believe they were the same as the rest of the interior. I know museum aircraft can't be fully trusted, but the pic in the squadron walk around show this, the 109E canopy is clearly RLM 02.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I've always done them RLM 02 or 66; same as interior. No idea as to the accuracy but figure it looks good that way so that's what I do. I'm sure there's some "experten" out there who can say for sure!

There is some research done by author Dave Wadman ( he worked on those Luftwaffe colour profile books for Classic Publications).  Specifically to the 109E, up to and including the curved canopy, the interior was 02.  With introduction of the heavier square frame on the E-4, these were painted inside and out with 66 right at the factory.  In addition, this darker colour could be found remaining on the exterior and not repainted to match the surrounding aircarft camou.

RLM 02 or 66 depending on period and aircraft type.
