Mustang cowl question
Posted by Theuns on Monday, November 9, 2015 11:40 PM

Can someone please tell me if the top section of the P-51d's encine cowl was removed in a single unit, both left and right side or could they be split and only one side removed with the other side still attached to the airframe?

Thanx

Split, according to the Tamiya 1/32 model. The panels are held on by magnets on the model, and can be removed separately.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

OK, I see what you mean. The upper cowl is split down the middle.

I only now saw the top spine where the cowl attaches to the airframe has 2 rows of camlocks, so it would be reasnoable that sometimes only one side of the top cowl was removed?

Perfectly reasonable. If what was broke was fully reachable from one side, you wouldn't pull both cowls.

Have you flown a Ford lately?

I would also think that in korea in the winter you would not want to expose the engine bay to snow if you did not have to, only work on the side you really need to work on ;-)
