academy 1/72 T-6 Harvard

Looks great Theuns, I especially like the contrast between highly polished natural metal and the fabric covered control surfaces.

All done, airframe allu over gloss black, silver on the fabric ,aftermarket local decals.

Here is the alclad on, not overly chrome-like I am OK with it.

Just imagine if I went with pollished allu it would have blown the chip in the camera!

I did this experiment , 3 coats of alclad airframe alluminium. It (to me atleast) gives the effect without being "mirror chrome"

One of my pet hates is masking canopies....this took me a good long while this morning but atleast it is done!

I got the promer on, sanded that then shot the gloss black enamel on. After it cures for a day or 2 I will start the pollishing thereof with 12000 MM to get ready for alclad.

The guys here in SA tend to "baby" their T-6's allot. Some of these guys trained on them during their AF days so they have a soft spot for them.

As for the paint I will be using alclad airframe alluminium over gloss black. I have found in small scale that pollished alluminium is a bit to "chrome"

Thats gotta be the most immaculate, most shiny T-6 Ive ever seen.  Looking forward to this.

That's going to be one shiny aircraft!  That mirror finish will be a real bear to replicate!

I do like the contrast with the control surfaces, however.

I've had one of these half built for years and it keeps saying to me "My outer wing panels don't have enough dihedral!"  Time to measure, I guess.

During the 80's and 90's the South African AF was the biggest user of Harvards or as they were called "spammies" in the world.

Looking good my man. Nice to see a T-6 getting built. I love the Texan because it was so important in the war. We don't see many getting built though. Looking forward to seeing this come together.

I have completed a few of these Academy 1/72 T-6's and they are really nice easy models that come out great with little effort.

The one thing you need to do (if you want to be pedantic) is to cut off the fairing that goes over the elevator trim tab pushrod on the right hand elevator and glue it on the bottom of the right elev.

Where I work there are a few T'6's and tey have a universal elevator. The left fots on the right side ect. Therefor the top fairing on the left will be on the bottom of the right.

Great start.  I recall making a Monogram T-6 back in the day, I was 8.  I'll be following this one.
