I got to see a couple of F-35s fly into Osh Kosh this year. Got a few pictures of them roaring overhead. Unfortunately, they did not move them to where I could get pictures on the ground until after we had to leave.

My mother lives not far from Luke AFB, so I get to see the F-16s and F-35s fly over her house.
"Whaddya mean 'Who's flying the plane?!' Nobody's flying the plane!"
My wife and I were down in Phoenix in October and we saw several F-35s from Luke AFB (as well as numerous F-16s). The F-35 is an ugly aircraft on the ground but it looks awesome in flight.

The USMC has priority right now for US production. The F-35B had it's IOC back in July (2015), the F-35A is expected in in July - August 2016. The USN with a fleet of younger F/A-18E/F won't have an IOC with the F-35C until 2019.

The F-35B had its IOC on July 31, 2015. The first active squadron was Marine Fighter Attack squadron 121. (VMFA-121)
The development started in 2001.
