My First Completed Model for 2016
Posted by plasticjunkie on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 9:47 AM

Just completed this 1/48 Academy/Eduard Good Morning Da Nang F-4B. I built the regular Adademy F-4B a couple of years back and IMO, this reboxing is an overkill with details not really necessary as the stock Academy kit  is adequate and can use a few added details here and there specially some pe seat belts.

Tons of pe and several resin details along with some nice decals are included but Eduard neglected to include missile stencils. A Two Bobs stencil set had to be purchased ($10) to complete the markings. You figure they add more things and increase the price and then leave off a very important detail.

The interior area of the aux. engine doors were scratch built with stretched sprue and plastic bits since Academy left this area as a gaping hole. Stretched sprue was also used to add plumbing to the wheel wells. The triple colored lights on the nose door were made with stretched spue then the tips painted the appropriate color. I then fished the sprues thru the holes,  cut the excess and glued them in place. The rear IP got some thin electrical wires attached to the backside and routed out and over the bulkhead. The resin tires were nice but again, the  regular Academy tires were very good.

Paints were MM enamels and MM Metalizers for the NM areas at the back and tail feathers. The weathering was done with a combo of Flory Washes and artist oils to create subtle fluid streaks.

Here is the completed Phantom representing NL 201 "Old Nick", F-4B Mig killer of VF-111 stationed on the USS Coral Sea during deployment in 1972. Any and all comments are welcome. Thanks for stopping by and looking.
