Which 1/72 Ju-88A-4 for Finnish scheme?
Posted by suomi39 on Friday, January 15, 2016 12:59 PM

I'm amassing a stash of 1/72 kits, all to be built in Finnish WWII schemes. Most have Finnish AF decals but I have a set of Techmod 1/72 FAF markings that I can use on those that don't.

One that's stumping me is the Ju-88A-4. At my LHS alone there are three versions: Hasegawa, at $56, Airfix, at $18, and Revell, at $25. The Hasegawa is a special edition Finnish version, and includes correct decals -- but I'm unable to tell if there are any other differences beyond the markings. If I were to go with the Airfix or Revell, at less than half the price, I could use my Techmod decals, though I would missing out on the nose art (which is admittedly really cool... but not $25-30 cool). I could even buy afermarked Finn Ju-88 decals and still come out way ahead of $56.

I've read all the online reviews I can find, but am not able to learn much.

Has anyone built the Finnish Hasegawa Junkers? If so, are there kit details that otherwise differ from a "standard" Ju-88A-4? Is the detail that much better than the other two? Between the Airfix and the Revell, which is preferred?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. is there a decent DB-3M 1/72 kit out there? The Finns forced five of these down during the Winter War and repainted and reused them.

As far as i am aware, there would be no differance. I think in general, German export aircraft were not altered from those used by the Germans. I have certainly not come across any mention of an export version.

As far as the kits, i have a few Hasegawa and the newer Revell Ju 88. And i would definatly recomend the Revell. Despite being far cheaper, it is easily comparable to the Hase kit.

I think the Airfix kit is an oder one, so certainly not upto the standard of their new kits.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I have both, and would buy the Revell, as its less than half the cost of the Hasegawa, and detail and fit for both kits is about the same.

Thanks Gentlemen. I also just found a good review of the new Revell kit which stated that it's as good or better than the Hase kit -- AND the Revell kit is on Amazon Prime for $16 delivered. Tough to beat that. Cool
