F-15c Aggressor
Posted by pordoi on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 7:42 AM

      This is the Tamiya 1/32 F-15c decked out as one of the now disbanded 65th Aggressor Squadron aircraft from Nellis AFB.  It has been on the bench for almost a year and at times, it seemed like the build would take one step forward then two backwards.  There are several online reviews that highlight some of the issues with this kit and they were spot on, especially the suggestions to attach the wings to the fuselage to avoid creating a sizeable seam.  Worth searching for if you have one of these in your stash.  The camo scheme, done using Model Master enamels,  was a bit of a challenge but I think that the end result looks OK even though it is not an exact match of the actual aircraft.  Call it artistic license Wink.  Just a few aftermarket items were included; some PE in the cockpit and resin exhaust cans.  The rest is OOB.

Very nice. I'm a big fan of the aggressor and top gun planes. Something different

VERY nice build and your ambitious camo paint work is outstanding. Your model is a real eye catcher for sure.

Juat a couple of tips from your Uncle Jay;

To cut  a nice straight panel line you could use Dymo label tape to  guide your scriber. It's thick plastic tape and it sticks quite well to the plastic while scribing.  However I'd be afraid to stick it to a final painted suface as it may take the paint with it as you remove the tape.  I got mine at Wall Mart for cheap.

I also use a wooden toothpick, sharpened to a fine point to clean up errant paint on the canopy frame lines.

Semper Fi, carry on.

Jay, I figured that the close in shots might draw some comments and I freely admit that I suck at scribing panel lines.  Hopefully improving little by little.  Thanks for your tip; will give it a try next time.

Thanks bvallot.  Might pull something out from the armor side of the stash for the next one.  Been wanting to try a whitewash finish using the hairspray approach...
