1/48 Hurricane Rear View Mirror
Posted by iSteve on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 12:41 AM

Hi All,

I purchased the new tool Airfix 1/48 Hurricane Mk. I to enter into my first contest coming up in April. The one outstanding problem I have with the kit is the rear view mirror that Airfix neglected to include. Does anyone have some good reference photos of the mirror that I could use to scratchbuild one? Could anyone part with one from their parts box?

Taking another angle on this issue, how badly will the judges score it if the mirror is missing?

Thanks!

As a judge in contests at the Butch O'Hare contest, a missing mirror should not cause any issue one way or the other.  The point is to judge on technique and skill, not on the historic accuracy of the model or the amount of after market items added.  Bottom line, depending on the Hurricane you are modeling, there may not have been a mirror.  I cannot speak for judges everywhere, but that is how its done where I am.  I wouldn't worry about it, or if you want to include it, scratch something together and make it look right.  either way should be fine.

Doubt I have anything better in my books than what is already found through google, so should be easy to find photos.  Easily replicated with some plastic card I think.

Approx. 12 x 6.5cm.

regards,

Jack

Thanks for the photos Jack. I've done some hunting on Google, but need a shot of how it attaches to the canopy. Your pics are the best I've seen so far.

Thanks for the reassurance John. I won't break my neck if it becomes too problematic for me.
