Building a balsa tissue covered model might be good practice before tackling one of the PE kits.  The dope used to adhere the tissue sticks to the balsa very well.  I worry about how well the dope or whatever adhesive is used sticks to the PE.

On You Tube, Paul Budzik has some excellent tutorials on soldering for models. This guy is a master modeler/craftsman and explains his process very well.

I have been curious about these models as well as they offer some planes in 1/48 (my preferred aviation scale) that I have not seen before.  Did you get any and what is the level of difficulty.  The soldering comments scared me a bit!

AJP Maquette 1/48 photoetch WWI kits covered with "Japan" paper

I have acquired a number of such kits that are in 1/48 consisting of photoetch brass, with some resin, and the framework is to be covered with "Japan" paper and white glue.  I plan to soon begin the Caproni Ca-3 trimotor biplane, and I intend to used solder for the primary form of costruction, so I'm trying to become competent with that tool.  But there are about a gazillion questions to answer.  AJP gives some tutorial information, primarily in how to cover the framework with paper as the construction proceeds, however the most burning question of those that I have concerns what kind of rigging material and how to attach it permanently in such a way as to give model the necessary support when the model is finished.  I have been making models for over 61 years, about 45 years in exclusively 1/48 aircraft, including many biplanes, and I have become accustomed to using photoetch parts as accesories, but never anything like I'm about to embark on this business.  Any information or suggestions on how to go about this project are greatly appreciated.
