Finished off this one today, one of my favourite aircraft the F-105 Thunderchief (Thud), this the G version. I will admit I love the SEA schemes on these but I thought I would go different and do silver….yes silver, this is not a natural metal or bare metal finish, it is of an aircraft painted silver, hence no tonal variations.
It is OOB, I used Vallejo’s new metal paint, Silver, and quite liked it. Very thin like Alclad, but it is acrylic. Tamiya olive drab did the anti-glare strip. I also gave it a Flory dark dirt wash to take some shine out of the silver. I think the blue on the US stars is to light but I used them anyway. The main gear legs seem a bit flimsy, but I will leave it upside down for a few days, maybe they will set a bit harder. I was going to have the gun bay open but the canon is really fragile and I broke 2 barrels getting them off the sprue. I will definitely be doing another. I have the D version and Trumpeters 1/32 D and G in the stash.
I would love to see a real one of these, I sat this next to my 1/48 F-111 and it is almost the same size, they must be a huge aircraft!
