Finally, I received my decals for the Bronco.  It was a Caracal set.  If anyone has trouble with the kit decals, you can order direct from them.  It's CD32015.  Thank you forum members for your support in my builds.  I greatly appreciate it.

Way to go, Toshi -

Another outstanding build for you, great job all around, the finished model looks just fine. Unfortunate that the decals are so poor, when will the kit makers ensure that everything is set right, when the kits leave the factory?

Congratulations, another one in the log book.

Patrick

Thank you very much Patrick206.  I guess Kitty Hawk overlooked the decals and or it is completely my fault.  Thank you Patrick206 for the support, read, and replies.

That looks pretty darn good. I really like the colors. Nice work my man!!

Thank you sir.  I too like the paint scheme and how it turned out.  It took me a couple of tries (Reshoot) but in the end, it was well worth the effort.  Thank you BrandonK for your support and visits to my builds.

Oops! Sorry, Toshi! Didn't mean to imply that I worked on Broncos during my time in the military. I actually worked on the Deceptive Electronic Countermeasures (DECM) equipment on Harriers, Skyhawks, Intruders, Prowlers, Cobras, Super Stallions, etc. The AN/ALQ-144 (just one of the many different DECM equipment used on aircraft) was used on the Cobras and Broncos, plus a few other aircraft (I think the Hueys had them, too). The squadron I was with in the Gulf War, which was part of the 22 MEU(SOC), was flying Harriers, Cobras, Hueys, and Sea Stallions (CH-53D) off of the USS Saipan (LHA-2 - the same ship used in the movie "Heart Break Ridge"), so I got to work on the ALQ-144s that came off of the Cobras. No Broncos in this squadron, although I kinda wished there were. I've always loved the looks of the OV-10.

Oh, and you'll love the Caracal Decals - I have the same set myself for my Bronco!

Gary Mason

No problem, it's all good!  Still, I think what you did was fantastic and cool.  That's funny on how you've mentioned the movie "Heart Break Ridge", that was the last movie I saw with my dad.  He was a Clint Eastwood fanatic!  Thanks again for the clarification as well as the visit.

Devil Dawg

Toshi,

The Bronco is looking great, as always! Sorry to hear about the decals. Makes me glad that I bought an aftermarket set for mine now!

The little cylindrical item on the top of the Bronco, atop the fairing near the rear of the fuselage, is an AN/ALQ-144 Infrared Deception device. I used to work on them waaayyyy back when I was in the Marines. They're used on just about anything that flies low & slow (helicopters, Broncos, etc.). Each of the little flat panels that you see on them are glass panels. I've forgottent over the years just how many there are, but each one should look like a mirror, even though they aren't mirrors. They allow IR signals out to fool enemy IR homing missiles. These would come back from combat flights with many, many of the small glass panels broken (mainly from all the sand and debris kicked up during take-off & landing), so that is mostly what I did when repairing them - replacing the glass panels. I'm not sure if the US military even uses this old technology anymore.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures of the finished Bronco! Good Luck!

Gary Mason

Devil Dawg, you are a wealth of information and a valuable member of FSM forum.  I did not know that you used to work on the Bronco, this absolutely amazes me, WOW.  Now when people ask about the glass fins, I'll know exactly what to say.

I was very irritated last night watching my decals just melt.  Mrs. Toshi had to calm me down and took me away from the bench.  Then in the usual fashion, we did the Mrs. Toshi's way, we both went online to eBay and found a set by Caralca.  It was shipped this morning so I should see it mid-next week if not earlier.

Devil Dawg, thank you so much for assisting me on this build.  You've really helped me out a lot.  Also, thank you for the read and replies.

Toshi -

A very great and solid build buddy. The paint work is outstanding, and the canopy work looks good. As for the decals, you'll nail it when your replacements arrive. Add a notch to another great build friend. It turned out great. Looking forward to the next one. Bow Down

My dear friend, you have words that I like to read when I start my day.  Your positive attitude is contagious.  Thank you!

That came out great!  Bummer on the decals.  I'm going to have to get this kit.

As far as I can tell those triangle shaped features on top of the wings are spoilers that retract into the wing flush.  I'm guessing they pop up to increase the roll rate or may be deployed on both sides together as air brakes?  The only cut away drawing I've been able to find on the Bronco is in a foreign language but it does show this feature.

Here is the almost completed Bronco.  As soon as the decals touched the water, they melted away as if the water was muriatic acid!  I'll need to go AF now.  This is a very disappointing situation!

Thats a big bird Toshi.  Looks like it didn't need much filling.  Nice tough taking a picture of it in a natural environment.

Yes, it is a big kit.  Oh, there was some putty work to do, lots of seams.  I was able to catch everything and correct it.  Thanks for the visit.

Here is today's presentation.  My next step is to gloss coat the Bronco in order to add adhere the decals.  This will be the second time that I've had to respray the Bronco as I utilized too dark of a brown.

I definately feel really good about this reshoot.  Below are some highlights, thank you forum members in advance.

Buckeye

How is the fit on this kit?  I've never built a Kitty Hawk kit before but may pick this one up for myself.

Mike

The fit on a his kit in certain areas can be a challenge like the wing and engine.  This probably is my fault as I'm still learning how to build a decent model kit.

I do highly recommend this kit and for that matter, any one of Kitty Hawks models.  What drew me to the Bronco was how well my previous build of which was a Airacobra went.  These kits are intensely detailed.  When you do purchase the Kitty Hawk Bronco, I'd love to see a WIP on this thread.  Thank you for the read and reply!

Hello Toshi -

Absolutely an amazing build Toshi. The paint job looks great, and you did a wonderful job on the build. Keep them coming friend! Big Smile

Thanks Hunter!  It took three tries before I was happy with the paint pigment.  Luckily I have Mrs. Toshi and my daughter to double check my work.

Toshi,

That is looking fantastic!  It's amazing how far you have come in so little time.  Keep up the great work.

Mike

Thank you so much Buckeye!  I still recall my first post here on FSM Forum.  Everyone in the community has helped me during some complicated assembly build.  Honestly, I would not be able to move forward as fast as I am now.  Thank you sir for visiting and helping me with all my builds.  I really appreciate this!
