Completed Monogram High Tech 1:48 A-4E Skyhawk
Posted by Toshi on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 9:06 PM

To my fellow forum members,

My last build of which was OV-10D Bronco is awaiting some decals of which I just purchased via eBay.  The decals are made by Caracal, I should have them in hand in about a week.  For some reason or another, as the original decals were dipped in water, it started to dissolve.  A first for me.

Below, you will find a Monogram Skyhawk.  What's interesting about this OOB build is that it comes with PE.  I've found maybe a half dozen or so Monogram kits that were labeled High Tech.  Until the decals arrive, I would like to share with you my next build.

That's a nice kit, even without the photo etch. I think the first issue of this kit was an aggressor version in the late 70's. I remember my dad building it. There's a copy of that release at the lhs right now; but it isn't in good shape.

That looks like a nice kit. I have a major itch to build something modern. I'll be watching.

Yes, I agree.  It's a very nice looking kit!  I picked this kit as in my childhood, I've built only three jet planes and this is one of them.  Thank you so much for the critique you've been giving me.  This has helped me grow as a modeler as well as a better person!  Thanks for the visit!

To my follow forum members,

The last 2 days were just  idyllic.  With a warm and sunny day, I could not help but to shoot a small handfull of photos.  There will be more to this fun build.

Looking good so far, Toshi! I just finished the two-seater version of that kit (OA-4M) a couple of months ago. It's a very good kit to build.

As always you have my complete attention to this build. This is another kit I have in my stash (it's the white boxed kit with no PE). I should get to it around the year 2145 or soWink

One question and I probably missed it on another post, but what is the stand I see holding your models as you build them?  Looks really handy!

Thank you sir, I'll be waiting in 2145 for your build.  LOL!  As for the stand?  It's made by Tamiya.  If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, they always have this stand available.  It is indispensable in my builds, It's actually a 2 part system.  Both turn just like a Lazy Susan.  One is to hold your main build, the other half becomes a paint system.  It comes with 4 alligator clips.  I highly recommend this purchase.  Remember to use the 40% off discount coupon via online.

Hobby Lobby would/should be the best price.  They do also sell on EBay.  I've seen it go for $20.00 to $30.00.  Some sellers include shipping.  I hope this helps and good luck.

Here is an update to the Skyhawk build, this will be my third modern day jet model that I've built so far.  It's been sprayed with a gloss coat awaiting decal placement.  I'll have another update once the decals are on.  Thank you forum members for visiting my thread.

This was completed today.  I remember this kit when I was a child.  Building this kit brought me some fond memories.  The only minor issue I had was the decals, but due to it's age this is acceptable.  From now on I'll have to purchase AM decals.  Thank you for the read and replies.

I almost missed this one, didn't figure it would take long to knock out something as tiny as an A-4 at your build rate Toshi!

BTW: You could always pick up some extra aftermarket decals and add them if you can find ones for the same aircraft. You might even be able to get an extra set from Revell customer service. I assume the ones for the tail fin went bad?

Yes, the ones on the tail fin did go very bad.  I'll just order AM decals for older vintage kits.  A lesson learned. Thanks for the tip as well as the visit.
