Old Monogram Spitfire Snap Tite Testors BF109 simple builds
Posted by scigs30 on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 11:54 AM

Continuing with my simple builds from the 70s I just completed two more.  The Spitfire is a Snap Tite kit from 1974 with stick on decals.  I decided to not paint the model since the plastic was a perfect match for the picture on the box.  I did paint some details with Testors enamel and Testors Tan for the canopy, not an exact match.  I used Testors tube glue even though it is a Snap Tite.  The second build is a 1/72 1978 Testors Bf109 built out of the box and brush painted with Testors bottle paints.

Great to see your postings on the simple form of modelbuilding.  I may have to try just sitting down with a good old dime store model, a few bottles of Pactra paint (Yup, have a few from over 40 years ago thats still good), and a tube of Ambroid tube cement.  Maybe bring out the inner 12 year old back out.

Scottrc, I can tell you it is fun, relaxing and stress free.  Also no more having a model sit around half built for months because I lose motivation to pull out the airbrush, mask or add extra details.  Brush painting with enamels is another plus because waiting for the paint to dry allows me to work on my RC models and rockets.  I remember using Pactra back in the day, good paint.

Very nice job on those classic old kits.I have that 109 (along with a Spitfire,Dauntless & Zero) issued by Testors. Originally that series included a F4F Wildcat and was one of the last batches of new aircraft kits issued by Hawk Models in the late 1960's. Once again nice work and looking forward to future builds.
