1/48 XP-55

Hi, first real post here.  Took a little while to figure out how to post pictures. I'm also new at taking pictues of my models.

Kit is a Czech models XP-55.  Multi-media kit.  Built basically stock.  Only thing added where some spare P-51 decals which would never be used, and some some wire underneath. Registry is made up.  Also my first time trying a bare metal finish.  Kit was painted using Tamiya acrylics.  Base color was Tamiya aluminum with other metal shades for panels.

Quick review of the kit.  It was a fun build but would not do another one again.  Kit had some fit issues.  Detail in the wheel bays is poor.  Some of the smaller parts such as the landing gear and some interior components, it isn't clear how they install or where they go.  Theres also no engine detail.

The resin cockpit is good but down fit into the fuselage well.  I know normally you have to snad a cockpit down to fit but in this cause the rear wall was too small creating large gaps which you wouldn't find until its painted and assembled.

Kit came with 2 vacumm formed canopies.  One had some bubbles in it so was sacrificed to make masks for the other.  Both also where not clear but a brown color.  But what you gonna do with a low run kit.  I need some more practice with vacumm form canopies as this was the first one I've done.

Overall I'm happy with the build.  Would I do another one?  No.  I started it mainly because I like the look of the plane.  I dont love the design enough to put up with the kit again but it looks good in my display case.

Very nice build! Like the subtle weathering. Pit looks great too.

Oh wow, very cool! I love how you painted her in an operational scheme. And really nice job with your first NM paint job.

After I saw this I pulled out my XP-56 'Black Bullet' and thought about doing her up in a NM scheme as the 'Silver Bullet'.

Very nice!  I've thought of building that kit- I had started to build a Vari-eze (1:1 scale), til my wife found out what the engine would cost!  Vari-eze has same configuration, almost, to XP-55.  Too bad the Curtiss version was attempted before Burt Rutan was old enough to help (was he even born yet?).

Very unusual looking craft, but beautifully put together!
