So here is my recently completed Supermarine Spitfire Mk.2.
I have built and painted the model in the color scheme and markings of S.No. P7350, code QJ-K, as flown by the then Flt.Lt. Geoffrey Wellum, who, as history would have it, shot down a He111 bomber, had a quarter of a share in shooting down a Ju-88 bomber and damaging 2 Messerschmitt Bf-109s during the Battle of Britain in 1942. He is also credited with shooting down another Bf-109 in France in 1941.
The kit is an Airfix 1/72 scale, and came as one of 3 kits in the BBMF set.
It was an easy to build kit and did require little bit of sanding and filling to make sure the parts fitted well. There were some fit issues in the wing roots during the fit, which was rectified by sanding of the fuselage.
I made the entire model Out-of-Box with the paints available with the kit, but I felt I could have done a much better job by using Fevicryl paints, as I have usually done on all my models.
I left the Spitfire glossy from the top as most Spitfires during the war and this surviving one too, were in pristine condition and well mainted. The total time of assembly was about 3 days (2 hours each day) and the painting took about a week to complete.
I applied a very mild weathering to the underside of the Spit, to simulate the oil leaks and grease marks, as even the undersides of most spits were very clean. The weathering took about a full day to complete.
The model was a decal monster with almost 50 big and small decals to be applied on the top and the undersides. This took almost a full day to complete but the decals were of good quality.
Here are some comparison shots with the real one:
And some more to finish:
