1/48 Blue Angel A-4F

This will in a future issue of FSM. It's the beautiful Hasegawa kit with the addition of the Steel Beach A-4 Super Fox/Blue Angel conversion. Some other mods were adding the smoke oil pipe to the inside of the sugar scoop and the extra padding inside the canopy. It was painted with MM Acryl Blue Angel Blue with a touch of Intermediate Gray added to lighten it up. The metal areas were painted with Alclad Polished Aluminum over a base of Enamel Gloss Black. The decals were from CAM. While they looked nice on the sheet, they yellow tended to be brittle and break apart around complex curves and surfaces. MM Acryl Chrome Yellow was a good match, though, so I was able to make repairs.

Whoa! That A-4 of your's is absolutely stunning. That is one stellar paint and decal job. It really is gorgeous Darren. Kudos to being featured in an upcoming issue. Well deserved.

Beautiful job.

I was lucky enough to a Blue Angels show in Newport, RI with this version aircraft.  I think it was 1983.  What a show they put on.  The viewing area was on the beach so we had an un-obstructed wide open view of the show.  I still have the show color paper program in my library somewhere.

Again, nice job.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for this one as I get my magazines. This is just super nice and clean - just the way the angels keep them.

That is a fantastic job. High gloss on a car model is difficult, but on an airplane it is even more difficult and you did a magnificent job on the BA Scooter. I'm a huge fan of the BAs and especially the A-4s. You did it right in making the conversion to a Super Foxtrot A-4. Interestingly enough there is a comment on the BA web site that disputes the modifications made to the BA aircraft, that is The up-ratede engine, enlarged intakes etc.

The Super Foxtrots were created for the training aircraft used at "Top Gun" school and the BAs latched on to a few of them for the demo team. As far as I know trhe TA-4 was not modified. Anyone have any infor on the TA-4. (BA No. 7). Also note the Testors Model Masters paints, both enamel and acrylic, have BA blue and BA yellow (correct FS numbers). Again, that is a great job.

The BAs will be at Willow Run Airport in August (20th and 21st) "Thunder Over Michigan" Airshow.
