1/48 Bicentennial A-7B
Posted by Darren Roberts on Saturday, May 21, 2016 12:43 PM

This was my first build of a Hobbyboss A-7. It's not bad, but I think I still like the Hasegawa kit better. The HB kit seems a bit clunky, and then there's the intake and canopy. A cover solves some of the intake problem, but the squashed canopy is pretty obvious. Overall, though, it's not horribly bad. The markings came in the kit, but were brittle and broke up over compound curves. I used a lot of touch up paint. Except for the SB intake cover, everything else was OOB. It's not one of my better builds, but it added to my Bicentennial collection. It at least looks good in the case.

The flaws you pointed at, is in my opinion not there.  Everything about this build is nothing short of fantastic.  Great job sir.

That is beautiful Darren! Very nice finish! Was this done straight OOB?

I like it. Can't go wrong with an A-7 and red, white, and blue.           gk

Now that is one sweet looking Bicentenial bird! With the flaws you talk about, I can't even tell. Well done!

I'm not one for flashy schemes, but Ive always digged Bicentennial stuff. The decals and paint work look awesome. I recently finished a Hobbyboss two-seater, and the intake and exhaust shapes are just terrible! Windscreen shape is just as bad. I found the attachment of the wings poorly engineered, making it tough to insure the propper dihedral. Also, the kit would have you mount the pylons directly to the bottom wing, so they were not 90 degrees to the ground, making me have to fill a gap on each side of all 6 of them ... Not a good kit in my opinion.

Beautiful, beautiful work Mate. I found myself viewing your Crusader many times.
