Cessna Bird dog.
Posted by gregers on Sunday, July 3, 2016 11:00 AM

Here's my build of the old Airfix Cessna Bird dog. Kit OOB except for a streched sprue aerial. paint is xtracrylic. It's markings are for the Austrian air force, decals from IPMS Austria. The aircraft I have modeled is currently hanging in the museum at Zeltweg, southern Austria.

The Airfix Cessna Bird dog is a sweet little kit, no horrors during the build, just a somewhat weak undercarriage. Mine broke when I was taking photographs.

All the best.

Thank's Toshi.

I meant that the real aircraft I have made a model of is hanging in the museum. not my model. Sorry for the confusion.

All the best.

Looks good.  I've never seen Austrian aircraft markings before.

Up in Minot I worked for a pilot who had over 900 combat hours in one of those.

it could explain a few things.

Love the Bird Dog!  Nice build.  Wish they would do more models of the liason aircraft.  Other than the bird dog and L-4, not that many kits out there.

Cheers Don.

I certanly agree. I too like the light aircraft / liason types. I used to own a 1/1 scale Auster MKVI project. Sold that and now I have bought a crashed Cessna 140 fuselage to restore. As for kits There are not that many. In my stash I have another Airfix Bird dog, Airfix Austers, KP cubs, Heller Storches, Sword Austers, A supercub  (can't remember who's though) and a Cessna T41. and that's about it. It'd be nice to have more types available.

All the best

I'd love to see a couple of the utility aircraft that I remember from the war, like the T-39 and the C-140.

Just after the war (WW2), Dad and a friend bought a surplus Taylorcraft L2B.  They had to re-cover it. It was a nice plane, had many rides and trips in that thing.
