Well, here it is, silvery decals and all. At under $10 and full of lifetime experiences how could you go wrong?
My fascination with the X-15 began as a kid. I couldn't wait for the next Life magazine to arrive hoping for more information. Years later (and years back), I visited the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and there it was! During the tour I kept coming back for another look. Years later (and still years back) during a photo assignment I got to spend part of a day with Joe Engle that had piloted both the X-15 and two Shuttles. What a great experience. (And I did get to ask all the questions!). About five years ago a friend and I were traveling to Death Valley on another shoot and my friend said that he had something to show me on the way. Wow, It was a small marker in the Mohave desert marking the crash site of one of three built X-15s. A couple of years ago I found my self at the Dayton USAF museum. XB-70 was on my list but was being stored in a hanger while waiting for a new Display Building. We had to bus out to the hanger for viewing of research aircraft. Not only was the B-70 there but the third X-15 sat off its left wing. I got to walk up to it and look in the cockpit. Full circle on the X-15. What a great experience! Hope you liked the story of my journey and my model X-15.
