1/48 Tamiya F-14A
Posted by Darren Roberts on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 10:13 PM

I decided to go with a later jet with the NACA gun vent. It's the Hasegawa piece shoehorned in. The vent on the gun breach bump was carved with an X-Acto blade. The Steel Beach TCS pod was temporarily put on to see how it looked. The final picture is of the intake lip bent up. It looks better to my eyes now. All it took was some gentle pressure.

Sometimes, that's all it needs.  I'm looking forward to more of your progress in this build.

Wow, Great work so far. I've been dying to get the tamiya kit. The cockpit looks really detailed is it out of the box?

On the Bench: Nothing atm

Very nice Darren!

What are your thoughts upon this kit compared to the Hasegawa 1/48 and the Hobbyboss 1/48.  Particularly with regard to ease of construction and fit?

Will this kit mean that we start seeing a lot of the other 1/48's being cleared out of everyone's stash and this becomes the new benchmark?

I have been thinking of getting a Hobbyboss kit (already have the Hasegawa), but when i heard this announced, i decided to wait and see what the reviews were like before committing.

The cockpit is very nice OOB. I didn't add anything to it. Essentially, this is the finest, best fitting, most well engineered kit I've ever had the pleasure of building. I'm not sure I can go back to my Monogram Tomcats after building this kit. What you see done is only a couple days of work. I got the kit and started it Sunday. I worked a little bit each night. I used one little bit of putty, and it was probably my fault because I'm trying to build it quickly to get it done.

The left side decaled. I have to go mow the lawn and throw down some grass seed and then I'll do the other side.

90% of the decals are on. The burner cans are in. I used Royale Resin wheels and turned metal alpha probe on the nose.

Beautiful work sir.  Love the Tomcat, and this is one fine looking version of it.  Would you take a picture of the cockpit?  Does it have raised details or a decal or what?
