Posted by yf23pav12 on Monday, October 24, 2016 1:44 PM

I am ready to build a F-15 and read many F-15 build info and can not find right answer. what Alclad colors do I need for F-15 exhuast nozzle and metal area (including both top and bottom area) before the nozzle? Also, can use windex or mr.green to clean airbrush after Alclad?  thanks.

You'll just have to buy a few different shades of alcad and see what metallic color looks best to you. Just because it says Magnesium on the bottle doesn't mean it best represents magnesium, if you get what I mean. I find a dark aluminum or Stainless steel alclad colors to look the best for Jet panels around the engine exhausts for fighter jets. And No, only use lacquer thinner to clean alclad from your airbrush.

I suggest three different shades. A lighter shade for the basic bare aircraft skin near the afterburners. A darker shade for the ring area between the afterburners and the aircraft skin. Lastly a darker burnt shade for the external portion of the afterburners themselves. The interior faces have a ceramic lining that will be a soot covered off white...

sorry, I can not afford several colors to try. I will go with your suggestion to use steel for the nozzle and  stainless steel for the rest of metal area. do you think acetone can be used to clean airbrush(iwata hp-cs)  after Alclad?

I'm sure it can, although straight acetone can be tough on your rubber O rings, tougher than lacquer thinner.
