Bob Hoover was one of the most skilled pilots of all times. I had the pleasure of spending several days in his company at an airshow. I was one of a few Civil Air Patrol Officers that was in charge of about 20 Civil Air Patrol Cadets. For those who do not know about the CAP it is an official auxillery of the U.S. Air Force. Bob Hoover spent a lot of time talking to the cadets and encouraging them to pusue military carreers. At that time he was flying an Aero Commander at air shows and the day after the airshow he took all of the cadets that could be there up for a ride a few at a time. WOW. He was a great and gracious man and a phenominal pilot. Chuck Yeager said Bob Hoover was the best pilot he had ever met. That is an endorsement. Bob Hoover will be missed. If I recall there are films on the web of his aerobatic flying. You will be amazed at what he does with a P-51.
