Fine Molds 1/48 K1 Cherry Blossom trainer.

I built this as part of the Call To Arms campaign to raise money for cancer research.

It's an unpowered trainer meant to be dropped from a Betty to teach future Kamikaze pilots. The Cherry Blossom was a jet assisted-piloted bomb during the late war.

The kit itself was a dream to build, I'm not an AC guy, but this fit perfect with little use of Tamiya Extra Thin. It was painted with Vallejo, weathered with dry pigment. I went a bit dirty since these things landed on it's sled in fields.

I dry brushed the IP over using the kit's decals since it had great texture.

One thing, I'll never paint another orange subject again. Coverage was a complete horror show, no matter how thin or what pressure or brush. I used three different Iwatas on this one. Paints were mixed via the formulas on iModelkit for IJN gret, Misubisji interior and the Orange. Aluminum was used as dry brushing and scratches on the sled.

That is really quite beautiful. Is that seam down the middle supposed to be there?

I only ask because I don't know.

Thanks Mike.

That's actually pretty funny you point that out. Like I said, I'm not an AC guy and always  mess up the fuse seam, but this kit fit like a dream and for once I didn't need putty anywhere on the build. I was pretty happy, then when get to the decal stage I find that there's about a 8 piece sectional red line to apply dead center, even down the canopy.

The one time the seam comes out nice, it's hidden.

Really nice build. Love the subject and color, but I too wondered about the seam.

Nice build. Not something seen very often.

Even with the color issues you described, it came out beautifully!  You picked a great subject.  It's such a rare thing to see.

Nice build, I love the Fine Molds kits, the newer ones especially.

Did you undercoat the orange with flat white?  Orange and yellow always benefit from that.

As to the stripe, who woulda thought?Big Smile

Thanks Gentlemen, I appreciate the kind words.

I knew that yellow should be undercoated white, but didn't think a flat, muted orange needed it.

All things considered, it was a quick, fun OOB build to recharge the batteries.
