Navy version of the B-29, aka P2B-1(S)
Posted by Kriegsmarine on Monday, November 21, 2016 3:49 AM

I have just started the venerable Revell B-29 in 1/48 scale.  I have yet to decide how I want to fininsh this bird, but my options are the bare metal finish suggested by the kit, olive drab over gray, or as I have just discovered, the Navy's version of the B-29, otherwise known as P2B-1(S).  I am really leaning toward option 3, as a P2B-1(S) in dark sea blue is rather interesting to me.  Unfortunately I have been able to find little information on this variant other than the Bu # that goese from 84028 to 84031, and originally they were used as long range reconnaissance aircraft and later on two were converted to act as a mother ship for some Navy rocket plane tests.  Does anyone know how they were modified for the long range reconnaissence role?  Extra fuel tanks, either internally or externally? Bomb sight kept or removed? Weopans, if any carried?..etc.  Any information would be helpful or even point me in a direction would be great!  Thanks.
