1/72 Airfix CA-13 Boomerang WIP

Found this in my stash the other day and decided to start working on it.  It is a old kit  with way over done details like the rivits.  The cockpit was very minimal,  really just a seat and a really poor pilot.

So I decided to scratch build the entire cockpit.  I had in my library a Airfix magazine from 1981 that had a great artical on this very model on how to make the scale cockpit.

I also had to upgrade the engine as there were no real details on it, so I added the push rods and ignition wires.

I also had to make the cooling flaps on the cowl more realistic.

In the last picture you'll see i had to add some shimes where the wing meets the fuselage to close the opening there.

It's been fun so far.

Nice project.  It's fun to improve older kits, and bring out the real model hiding inside.

You're doing a great job on this classic kit.  I'll be watching this one.

Thanks,  but I beginning to feel that the term "classic kit"    means  old, poor quality and inaccurate.  Lol

But I knew that when opening the box!

I also had to thin down all the trailing edges of all the flying surfaces as they were really thick,  not razor thin,  scale thickness would have been 3-4 inches,  Surprise

And I'm sanding off most all of the rivits, as in 1/72 you'd never see those.

Agreed! I think I built this kit a long time ago. I like what you're doing with it. I'd love to see more.  :)

Anyone know where I might be able to get turned brass 20mm cannons for this plane? There is only one plastic one in the box.    I thought I saw some on Ebay a couple of weeks ago but not anymore.
