Has anyone picked up the new Tamiya F-14 yet?

I'm not normally an aircraft modeller but certain ones just grab my attention and won't let go. This new Tamiya F-14A is one of them. I picked up one yesterday from Squadron along with a True Detrails ejection seat set. I just couldn't resist the 25% off sale. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone else here has gotten the kit and what they think of it.

There's a full review in the current issue of FSM that's also available elsewhere on this site. It was absolutly glowing in it's praise of the kit, a sentiment I'll second. I'm about 3/4 done with fine and love it.

I have it,it looks great in the box, have not started it yet. What swayed me was some of the excellent build reviews on Youtube, looks like an absolute dream going together, builders say very little sanding and fit is so good you barely need glue.Looking forward to starting soon.

jezzpezz, yes, I read the review in FSM and that definitely helped sway my decision.

Tojo72, thanks for the hint about Youtube. I somehow always forget to check them out for info.

Oh for sure i picked it up, as an F-14 junkie i needed my fix. The kit is GORGEOUS. Do not let it sit, build it the second you get it in. Everything just falls into place. I'm about 3/4 done with mine as well, i'm actually updating it to the Block 125 version with different chin sensor/ECM bumps etc, and this is hands down the best, most well engineered kit I have ever built.

I wonder why Tamiya is just a couple of notches above the rest? I used to be a huge Airfix fan, but they seem to have fallen behind. Currently busy with my 1st Trumpeter kit, so far so good.

Darren Roberts knows a thing or two about F-14 kits. Check out his build and comments about the Tamiya kit here: http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/p/172642/1917731.aspx

I'm on my third one. It's one of the best kits I've built. I'm extra happy that it's a Tomcat! It's worth every penny. It's set up for a Tomcat from mid to late 1970's. It appears Tamiya will release other variants, but when is an unknown. If you want a different variant, Steel Beach makes an upgrade set. They will also be releasing an F-14B conversion at the beginning of the year.
