The director at the museum I volunteer at flew this helo off the Shangri-La back in 1967. He's always wanted a model, so I decided to see if it could be done. I chose the old Matchbox SH-2G kit as a starting point. I cut up the four bladed tail rotor and made it into a three bladed rotor, cut up and reshaped the engine hump (the UH-2A only had one engine), made the port window smaller, plugged the hole on the underside where the sono gear went, cut off the rudder extension, and made the lift bar. Decals were sourced from the spares box. The USS SHANGRI LA were individual letters. That took some time and patience! Now that I know what to do, I may try this again on a Kittyhawk kit.

Hello Darren!

Cool, I was contemplating doing something like that in 1:72! Your machine looks verey clean! Do you have any references on that baby? They are very hard to find on the 'net. Like what would the instrument panel look like - single engine vs. twin engines sure resulted in some significant changes!

Thanks for sharing and have a nice day
