Thunderchief Avionics Anyone??
Posted by crossofiron on Monday, January 2, 2017 2:21 PM

Hi All,

In between building my Huey, I am intent on researching the F-105 Thunderchief.

Finding it hard (as usual) on finding photos or information on the Avionics or Electronics Bays.

Anyone have any photos or point me to a site?

Many thanks

Steve

Detail & Scale vol.8 has some black and white pictures of the avionics bays.

I looked through my "walk around" book...no joy, surprising. The only detail shots in that are a few small access panels and the larger hydrolic system panels.

Best I could fnd with a short search were of other peoples models.

For what they might be worth...

Try this: do a reverse search. Identify the avionics and search for them. Usually the pictures lead you to the airplane pictures. The F-105 had the AN/ARN-92 LORAN, AN/ASG-19 fire control, and NASAAR R-14A radar. You might try to find an older Jane's weapons systems at a library and see what it has. Jane's all the worlds aircraft editions from the mid-1960s should have some notes. The pictures you are looking for might be sitting under a rock somewhere at DoD still classified because they have been forgotten about. I have a source who worked on Phantoms and F-101 I'll ask nexxt time I see him.

Chasing the ultimate build.

Thanks all!

Looks Like I will have to buy the book, still cannot find much but will keep looking!

Cheers

Steve
